Ideally these monthly check ins will be at the beginning of the month. But if you’re just checking in for the first time – welcome! This week I launched this blog and with that I shared my 8 goals and intentions for 2018. So here we are, half way through February, taking a look at what worked and didn’t work for my January intentions. I’m also sharing what I’m doing in February to my goals and keep on track with my intentions by the end of 2018
You can read more about my 2018 goals and intentions in this post.
1. 2018 goal: Less screen time, more learning
-January intention: Find and read one book that interests me.
-Done. I knocked this out in about 48 hours. I read Where’d you go Bernadette and enjoyed it so much I couldn’t put it down for an entire weekend! I have a couple more non fiction books on deck that I’m excited to get through as well. Right now, for me, non fiction is working. I have a couple autobiographies and nutrition based books I want to get around to reading, but right now they don’t interest me. The whole point of this is to find books and podcasts that interest me enough to not want to mindlessly scroll through my phone.
-February intention: Continue reading. Knock out another book.
2. 2018 goal:Organize and simplify
-January intention: Organize our guest bathroom and get rid of products that have not or will not be used anytime soon. Also, dump phone photos onto my external hard drive at the end of each month.
-Done, kind of. It took me a whole 20 minutes to clean out our guest bathroom and get rid of expired products or things that are no longer useful to us. I started with this room because I knew it wasn’t going to be a big undertaking and it would be a doable start to this goal. I haven’t dumped my pictures for January yet.
-February intention: Organize and simplify our kitchen storage. Download pictures from January and February into their own albums.
3. 2018 goal: Finish our space
-January intention: Since I’m going to be organizing our guest bathroom, I intend to print out and frame palm tree pictures to be “done” with decorating one more room.
-Done. I printed about 20 palm tree pictures through MPIX and got them hung up to complete our guest bathroom. I was able to frame and hang up all the pictures in about an hours time thanks to heavy duty double sided tape. And the best thing about it is, when we move out of this rental, there will be no holes to patch up! My grandpa was the genius that discovered heavy duty double sided scotch tape to make hanging multiple pictures a breeze. – Thanks Pops!
*Heads up, if you purchase pictures through the above link, I will be compensated for sharing their products with you. But bonus, you get $5 off your first order!
-February intention: Finish the kitchen. Organize baking supplies into glass containers. Maximize our cupboard storage, and go through our pantry to get rid of expired foods.
4. 2018 goal: Adulting (fun I know.)
-January intention: Create a budget with Trav so we can crack down on saving money to travel this year.
-Done. And the one I’m most proud of. We sat down at the beginning of January and assessed our 2017 spending and came up with a goal of how much money we want to save before we head to Europe. From there we created our budget around those numbers. Its been about 5 weeks now and we’ve actually been under budget most weeks.
-February intention: Continue to follow the budget we made
5. 2018 Goal: Grow EAT healthy designs
-January intention: Find 4-5 local markets to attend with EAT in 2018.
-Not done. We have, however, found a new screen printer we are excited about and hope to get the ball rolling on more designs shortly, and get designs we’ve had out of stock for a while reprinted. So we did make some progress on this goal, just not the progress I had planned at the beginning of the month. And that is perfectly fine with me, because things change and I need to learn to be more adaptable to change.
-February intention: Now that we found a new printer for our shirts, get our shirts reprinted. Also, pay our sales tax, and research 3-4 markets we can attend this year.
6. 2018 Goal: Continue to choose non toxic products that work for us.
-January intention: Order wool balls for our dryer to switch out our dryer sheets, which may contain toxic chemicals known to cause cancer and other health issues.
-Done. This doesn’t need much explaining, but to note we have been using our wool balls for a couple weeks now and haven’t noticed much difference from conventional dryer sheets (which is a good thing!).
-February intention: Test out non toxic cleaning products. My mom has been quite the chemist whipping up non toxic products of all kinds. Awhile back, she made surface cleaner but it had vinegar, and I wasn’t a huge fan of the smell. She recently made a new concoction that I’m trying out.. I’ll report back if it works and if I like it.
7. 2018 Goal: Move More
-January intention: Hit the gym 3x/week and take advantage of the great Southern California weather and go on one hike.
-Done and Done. I was able to make it to the gym at least 3 times each week and we were able to make it up to Big Bear early in the month for a hike (I’m working on a short video of our hike, too!).
-February intention: Continue to hit the gym 3x/week because this is a schedule I can keep and take 2 yoga classes.
8. 2018 Goal: Be Creative
-January intention: Pull out the quilt I started while I was in the middle of grad school (3 years ago..) and make progress on it.
-Done. I pulled out my unfinished quilt and figured out where I left off and what still needs to be done. I’m about 75% of the way done with quilting the two sides together and then I just need to add binding to the edges.
-February intention: Continue to make progress on my quilt. Finish up everything except the binding. And, finish my yarn wall hangings that I’ve had the materials for, for a couple months now. (wall hanging inspo here, and here, and here)
// So there you have it, my goals and intentions for February. So far I’m liking these small monthly goals. They keep me on track without being overwhelming. I’ll be back in a couple weeks with a report on what worked/didn’t work, and my goals and intentions for March.
