Calories don’t count on vacation, right? I guess this dessert gets some healthy points because I threw in some peanut butter and fresh fruit. Anyways, I found a couple pins on Pinterest floating around for a new type of campfire dessert: campfire cones. They were easy to put together, and were absolutely delicious. If you were camping with little ones, it is something they could personalize themselves. Gooey melted-ness all wrapped up in a neat little cone for the win!
Step 1-Add peanut butter, caramel, or chocolate syrup to the rim of your cone.
Step 2– Add delicious toppings to your cone. I did marshmallows, banana pieces, and crushed up Resses. You could do a smore concoction with crushed graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate. Another favorite would be chocolate and strawberries
Step 3– Wrap up your cone in foil. If you have a larger crowd doing cones, it might be best to take a sharpie and write names on the foil to differentiate between cones.
Step 4– With tongs, place your cone at the base of your fire for no more than 5 minutes. This works best when the fire has died down some. The goal is to just melt your toppings inside. You don’t want to burn your cone #lessonlearned.
Step 5-After your cone has been in the fire for about 5 minutes, with tongs, remove and set aside to let cool for 5-10 minutes.
Step 6– Enjoy your ooey-gooey deliciousness. My favorite part was the very end when all the Peanut butter melted down into the bottom with the marshmallows.
We will definitely be adding campfire cones to our camping desserts. They break the routine of smores and roasted marshmallows. Not that I get tired of a good smore with peanut butter, but variation is good. It helps that most of our toppings we brought along anyways (marshmallows for hot chocolate, candy bars for smores, fruit for fruit, peanut butter for PB + J), so there is no need for much more on the shopping list!
