WHO: Travis + Elise
WHAT: Mt Rubidoux hike
WHERE: Riverside, California
WHEN: November, 2014
WHY: Because it was a pretty day and we wanted to knock out some miles for our mile challenge.
This hike wasn’t new to us; we have been on this hike before 2014. It’s really convenient for us because it is about a 20 minute drive from home. I mean, we can’t complain too much we have a lot of awesome hiking here in Southern California, but this hike is easy access, takes only a couple hours to complete, and probably the closest to home for us. In case you were wondering if we decided to do a quick wardrobe change mid hike the answer is no, these pictures are just a combination of previous hikes we have been on, on this trail. This is a really popular trail, and there are always a lot of people. I would classify this trail as easy. The only hard part about it, is looking for parking. The only options are street parking or parking in the near by park. Either way it’s a short jaunt to get to the trail head. The trail can get pretty hot and the sun beats down pretty hard so make sure you slather on sunscreen before you go. Also, there is a pretty neat bridge and lookout tower towards the top of the mountain; you can read about the history of the mountain here.
There are a few different trails depending on which side of the mountain you want to head up, but they all end up at the top with some gorgeous views of the valley. We were able to knock out 3.5 miles; so depending on which trail you take to the top you can expect to average about 3 miles round trip. It makes for a nice hike for a early afternoon, mid day walk.
Disclaimer: I am behind at documenting our 2014 hikes, and our Mile Challenge 2014. As soon as I catch up with blogging all of our hikes over the next couple of weeks, I will update our Mile Challenge 2014 🙂
