Have you guys heard of Argan oil?
Yes you have-Well why didn’t you tell me about it before?
No you haven’t-yea me either, so don’t feel bad. I’m about to tell you all about it now because those who already have heard about it, have failed to mention it to the rest of us.
Argan oil is a lightweight oil that is rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids, and is most commonly used to hydrate skin and hair. It’s good for acne, dry, itchy skin, among other things (Read more about the benefits of Argan Oil here)
I originally heard about it when my friend Sarah opened up shop selling Argan oil, not too long after EAT healthy designs opened it’s doors. Sarah and I went through the nutrition program together at SDSU and I know she puts her heart and soul into everything she does. She is such a sweetheart and has this great passion for health and nutrition, so of course I’m going to jump on anything she has to recommend.
Our Argan Oil is 100% pure, never doctored or mixed with any inferior base oils. We do not sell anything we would not use ourselves or trust on the precisous skin of family members. All the products we carry are made without the plastics, silicones, petroleum, artificial fragrances, dyes, and other unsafe ingredients found in most beauty products, and are guaranteed to give you results you’ll love.
Ever since my oil arrived I have used it almost daily. I mix a couple drops with my lotion before I rub it into my skin, I add a couple drops to the ends of my hair that badly needs a trim, and most recently I made a super simple sugar scrub that I am in love with.
Lemon Mint Sugar Scrub
1 1/4 c sugar
1/2 c coconut oil
1 lemon zested and juiced
5 drops peppermint essential oil
5 drops lemon essential oil
15 drops Argan oil
Start by combining the sugar and coconut oil together in a bowl. Coconut oil is naturally solid at room temperature. I didn’t heat up the coconut oil, I just took a wooden spoon and kind of “cut” it up and mixed it with the sugar. Add in the lemon zest, juice and remaining oils.
Scoop out a modest amount of sugar scrub, massage into wet skin using circular motions for 30-45 seconds or until sugar has dissolved, avoiding any sensitive areas or breaks in skin. Rinse with warm water & pat dry.
This recipe makes enough to fit 4 4oz mason jars comfortably. You could easily double or even half this recipe. I found the chalkboard mason jar tops at Michaels and thought they would be a cute addition to this project. You could always take some chalkboard paint to the mason jar tops that come with the jars. These would make great gifts for family, friends, or co-workers. Add our Mint food pun valentine and a wooden scoop to the outside for a simple, good for your skin gift for Valentines day!
