Have you been following along on my quarantine project of kitchen organization on Instagram?! Here’s part 1! Products are linked on the bottom if you’ve been following along and already know the backstory.
Essentially, we have a small kitchen with small storage that needs some organizing help. Yes, it’s not in the worse shape, but it could be better and I have the energy and time to give it some TLC and make it all it can be right now, so why not?
Our apartment came with this built in desk nook in our kitchen, next to our fridge. Since we have a spare bedroom we’ve dedicated as an office, we were never going to use this as a desk. Shortly after we moved in, Trav built a shelf to fit above the desk so we can store food and kitchen gadgets there and make better use of the space. It’s a good space, but it needed some cleaning up and reorganizing. Insert Part 1 of kitchen organization (Part 2 we will tackle the pantry / cabinet space and maybe part 3 drawers?? we will see how ambitious I am).

Like I said, it’s not horrible. But it was definitely feeling like a catch all space and just needed some organizing to give everything a home. Here’s how I broke it all down and organized the space.
- First things was first – we went through all the books and magazines that we never touch. Any of the non-cookbooks that we kept, we put in the office, and the rest we donated or recycled (magazines).
- We accumulated random glass jars (nut butters, mason jars etc) that were just pilling up. I recycled some, and the rest went into a wicker basket that I ended up putting on the top shelf.
- The cutting boards and cookie sheets needed proper organizing. They were just all leaned up on one another and it was a pain to get anything out to use it. I thought about having Trav build something out to organize these, but this is an apartment and I didn’t want anything too permanent. The organizer we got for this works perfectly (and it doesn’t scratch up the finish on the shelf).
- Lastly, I’ve been dreaming of some baskets to house the toilet paper and paper towels for some time now. And they look better than imagined!
